General Surgery
General surgeons will diagnose and treat patients who are affected by illness that could benefit by surgical intervention. When a patient is brought to the hospital for emergency treatment after trauma, a general surgeon may be called to evaluate for surgical treatment and to coordinate these aspects of the patient's care.
Many general surgeons focus on illnesses affecting the abdomen. Others will also treat conditions affecting the chest or neck. Some may focus on the surgical treatment of breast cancer.
